Saxony-Anhalt presents itself as a state of renewable energy in Abu-Dhabi
Monday, 11 January 2010
Saxony-Anhalt will present itself for the first time at the World Future Energy Summit held from the 18th-21st January 2010 in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The event is the biggest conference and exhibition worldwide for future potential energies, as well as innovations and visions for power engineering.
Solar Valley invites the international industry to a talk at the Investment and Marketing Corporation Saxony-Anhalt exhibition stand in the German Pavilion, Hall 7, Stand 7 135. Exhibitors at the stand include the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, the solar glass manufacturer Vetro Solar and also the Fraunhofer-Center for silicon photovoltaic. Q-Cells SE, the photovoltaic manufacturer from Bitterfeld-Wolfen, will also be at the exhibition (Stand 7 134).
With the exhibition, Saxony-Anhalt wants to present itself not only as a state of renewable energy but above all wants to further develop its position at the forefront of international technology in the area of regenerative energy.
Net power generation amounts to 34 percent of renewable energy
Saxony-Anhalt is the state of renewable energy. In comparison to 2007, net power generation of renewable energy climbed from 15% to 34%. Wind power contributed the largest share with 5.1 MWh, which is 14% more than in the previous year. Due to a constant rise in the recent past, biomass contributed 1.8 million MWh to power generation in 2008 (+19%). The biggest increase of 88% was seen in photovoltaic, although with a total share of the renewable energy of around 1%, Saxony-Anhalt only marginally contributed.
However, Saxony-Anhalt is the front runner when it comes to the establishment of companies in the solar sector. Solar Valley is one of the quickest growing industrial areas in Europe, with its focus on the solar industry and its suppliers. In addition, throughout the whole state, many businesses have relocated along the supply chain all around Magdeburg, above all glass and solar glass manufacturers.
Solar Valley - the heart of the Solar Industry
In 2008, almost 20% of the world's and 90% of Germany's solar cells were produced in Saxony-Anhalt. With 65% of the photovoltaic industry's manufacturing capacity Solar Valley is the most popular investment location within Germany.
Since 1991, more than 9 billion euros has been invested in the location, first and foremost in Q-Cells and Sovello and also Solibro, Malibu or Sontor, which merged with Sunfilm AG and therefore is a large provider of silicon based thin-film modules. The Thalheim/Bitterfeld-Wolfen region is one of the most important centres in the area of thin-film production.
Furthermore nearly almost all the firms with their headquarters in the Solar Valley have their own research and development capacities. The dense concentration of businesses and research institutions improves the availability of qualified workers and co-operation along the supply chain as well as all network partners. As a unique worldwide centre for the crystallisation and material analysis of solar silicon, the Fraunhofer-Center for silicon photovoltaics provides a wide range of services.
